Located in the outer Sunset district, the existing 2-story single-famly dwelling is renovated to optimize the full potential of the lot. The proposed design will add a two-story second unit onto the existing structure with 3 parking spaces at street level. Both lower and upper units will be connected through a common staircase located at the front. Sustainable design strategies include radiant heating system, rainscreen wall panel system, solar and PV panels at the roof, renewable finishes and materials for the interiors. The project is anticipated to be certified with LEED silver rating with the US Green Building Council. Besides the interconnecting stair between level 3 and 4, the cantilevered bedroom at the rear of the second floor is a dominant architectural and structural gesture corresponding to both the Ocean Beach and the outdoor space of the project.
